MyFitnessPal

This app is AWESOME!

I’ve been using it sporadically for over 10 years and it is nice that I can see my weight over that time period.

Also, I don’t use it fully but I do log my food. I have created some recipes and it is VERY USEFUL as a Food Log.

It also used to sync with my SmarTrak app for my scale but that seems to have broken. That was on my Samsung Galaxy SIII and S5 Active though and I’m on an iPhone 8plus now.
It also used to sync (on my Galaxy) with my Fitbit Charge HR but I don’t know why it isn’t sync’d now.

Anyway I love MyFitnessPal and if I can figure out the Friends thing I will buy it so I can Timestamp my food and export data to Excel.

Fitbit Charge HR

I’m using a Fitbit Charge HR again and it has SEVERAL ISSUES.
Notably, on 12.3.17 I was able to confirm that it reset my calories for the day, presumably at midnight, from where they ended at 1206 when I plugged it into my computer and displayed 247 calories burned when I put it on at 3:10am before a workout. Those 247 were phantom calories.

The Stairs/Floors didn’t increase but I know they are not accurate either.

and I think it also had me at .01 miles and I don’t know if that is how far it is from my computer to my workout room about 40 feet away or not.

I hope the Fitbit counts the calories right when I workout. I log the start calories and end calories and do the math. It seems reasonable but I am going to replace the Fitbit with an AppleWatch I expect. Alas.

Dump Soup (JWT)

I got this recipe from my friend JWT who devised it as a cheap source of protein and carbs.
He used any canned ingredients, it didn’t matter, part of the point is that this was/is cheap to make.

I broke down the nutrition info from ingredients I used several times, but I’m not sure what they were. I could revise this later. According to my email, these were HEB ingredients in 2010, 1 can of each. I may do this again and count the fat I guess. I have to see what Carolyn charts. I guess I should calculate Fiber and Fat if I do it again.

I would like to make it fresh and make it more tasty than I do now but I see this as a staple along with salad and my smoothie.

Makes about 10 cups, a serving is about 1 cup, 160 calories, 33 carbs, 1g fat, 7g protein.

Dump Soup:

  • white hominy
  • yellow corn
  • kidney beans
  • pinto beans
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes (I swap 1 can of Mild Rotel)
  • 1 pkg of taco seasoning (We use either Mild for Mom or Regular for me and my son)

Put all of it together in a big pot. Don’t drain the water from the
cans, just dump all of it in a big pot. Cover and bring to a boil.
Then, simmer for 5 minutes, and serve.

If you like it hot, then use hot taco seasoning. If you like it really hot, trade one of the cans
of tomatoes for a can of Rotel.

Captain America Protein Smoothie

This is about to be my post-workout protein smoothie for the rest of P90X3. I made one tonight after The Challenge and measured it out and it was just about the way I used to make them without measuring, but it was a bit thin, perhaps because ingredients thawed before mixing as I was measuring and recording.

My Captain America Smoothie recipe and Nutritional info, based on info from James Hall’s good friend Linda 😀

475 Calories, 23 Grams of Protein:

  • 1/4 Cup sliced Banana, frozen
  • 1/4 Cup sliced Banana, frozen
  • 1/2 Cup Organic Frozen Blueberries
  • 1 Cup Organic Frozen Strawberries
  • 1 Tbs Almond Butter
  • 28.6g Whey Protein Powder
  • 1 Cup Vanilla Almond Milk

I will add this to MyFitness Pal now. It’s probably 1/3 of my calories I’m guessing.

P90X3 Classic 8 Day 2 Agility

Day 2 Fitbit readings before and after:
Steps 672-2777=2104 Steps
Heart Start 72-End 103
Miles .3 – 1.26 = .96 miles
Calories 1614-1906 = 292 calories burned AGAIN! Exactly! I did take the measurements after the cooldown and cleaning the mats but that is what I did before also.

This is a hard one for me to do because I’m not keeping up well with his commands and I can’t tell exactly how he wants the patterns done. So I’m staying close. Also, with all the soreness from Day 1, all that jumping and the jumping jacks in the warmups, are like getting stabbed everytime muscles and fat shake, which is a lot. But I know that gets better. I think in the 2nd or 3rd phase it is almost unnoticeable.

2 Days down. 98 to go!!!

Day 90 is a REST day.

Day 91 is the Final Fit Test and After Photos.

P90X3 Classic 8 Day 1 Total Synergistics Begins Block 1

This 8th attempt will be completed as one workout per day.

So I’m labeling it P90X3 8.

This should be the first post of 91 posts in the category “P90X3 8th attempt 91 entries” unless I rename this category (I have, it was originally 90 entries).

There is also a Prologue under the P90X3 category to help keep these logs matched up with the 91 days of the program.

Pix are done. Measurements are done. I hope to blog the Fitbit data with each workout. I may post some notes. The Fit Test I did early this morning has not killed me like I recall it doing before. I may also post later but my measurements seem to have improved somewhat since I took measurements in July 2016.  But I have to get this workout started, here are the beginning measurements from Fitbit. This workout may be a bit lame but I’m starting now.

Here goes.

Day 1 Fitbit readings before and after:
Steps 2389-3429 = 1040 Steps
Heart 61-109
Miles 1.08 – 1.55 = .47miles
Calories 1875 – 2176 = 292 calories burned (it’s been on my desk all day, I don’t know how to reset this, obviously a false reading but I hope it counts the calories properly during the workout. I will replace the Fitbit, I may post about it…) –
Floors 3 (again, been on my desk all day, another false reading but I hope it counts properly during my workout) I’ve decided not to bother with floors. It would only be to Troubleshoot the Fitbit which I don’t want to do.

I may soon categories these blog posts as only “P90X3 Classic 8th Attempt 90 Entries” or whatever I might change that to, the idea being that all 91 entries will be contained there, one per day. Since the program is 91 days, I need to change that title. Lol.

1 Day down. 89 to go!!!

Day 90 is a REST day.

Day 91 is the Final Fit Test and After Photos.

P90X3 Classic 8th Attempt Prologue

I hope I get this right with a Blog post of 90 entries so this entry may be separate from the Tagged posts, I hope that is clear later.

I hope I can sneak in pix and videos. I expect to add Gym work and the best nutrition plan I have used to date. I should be drinking only water, protein or juice smoothies and maybe some type of recovery drink. I will make notes as I go.

There may be a P90X3 Classic Blog that includes this post, some nutrition and stuff and a sub-blog of 90 posts just on the workouts.

There is a Blog Category called P90X3 Classic 8th Attempt 90 Entries that has only the 90 workouts logged in chronological order with Calorie counts, some notes and a countdown.

I will maybe do an entry today on the Fit Test and then maybe put Day One at the end of one of these 2. I’m not sure. I thought I had this figured out.

Also, the original purpose of this was for students of mine at my training facility could look up in a public place and see that I had gone before them. As that is no longer the case and now this is a mostly personal journey, we’ll see how much info I post and if I keep the postings up but it is very important to me to make the next 90days a very productive time. I hope not to strain myself to injury but if so, I want to get through the 90days. My goal will be increased muscle mass, decreased body fat, loss of at least 30lbs and then if I think I have a weight issue, I will be able to say to my Doctor that I have eliminated diet and exercise as a problem.

Also, if I pursue my 3rd Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo, I want these goals done by then as well as part of that pursuit. The original intent of me signing up for Kung Fu lessons was to be more like Bruce Lee and less like maybe Sammo Hung. Lol. The only reason I’m putting this online therefore is to make an accountability record which of course, is less important now that I do not expect to open a commercial martial arts or training facility. Here goes.

P90X3 Classic 2nd Attempt DAY ONE

Here we go, starting 14 hours late on the 2nd attempt.

This is Day One of 90 which I think is 13 weeks. The blog entries should match the days. That has been an issue in the past. I expect it not to be an issue this time.

Monday Dec 22, 2014. I will come back and edit this with the end date and such later but I wanted to start the blog now. We are not planning to do before and After pix apparently. I may go ahead and do measurements and pix tomorrow. I’m basically at the weight I originally started. 221lbs. But my waist is still smaller from dropping an inch or two last time. Pants I could not button until I got into the program before, still fit although I’ve gained weight back. So bodyshaping is happening.

This program is intended to get my son moving all his parts mostly, we need a consult for him because of his shoulders at least. It is pending. And for me, it is part of my mission to get to 176 pounds. I need to get to 188 pounds before I reconsider my exact end goal but I need to get to 188 for a few reasons and extra muscle definition and such is fine but I will worry about that really only after I hit 188.

Pix and perhaps video blogs to follow. Again.

Getting Old is for People Who Don’t Know Better

Tony Horton says in P90X3 (I’ll look up which workout), that “Getting old is for people who don’t know better.”
