Facebook has apparently gotten me into some trouble so I thought I needed to put a belief statement somewhere because some of the people think I’m more conservative than Rush Limbaugh and some think I’m more liberal than George Clooney.
If I have to pick a Politcal Party (here in the USA), I have to pick Libertarian.
Otherwise, I was greatly influence by Star Trek the Original Series. It has had a profound impact on my life and here are some of the things I believe which may be illustrated by Star Trek (the original series aka TOS):
- Humans are one race;
- People with different ideas can communicate, respect each other and work together;
- Freedom is important to Human life;
- There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. – Hamlet (1.5.167-8), Hamlet to Horatio (I considered becoming a Scientist in college, I took advance Science classes in High School);
- Teamwork is important and powerful;
- There are ideals worth striving for;
- There are ideals worth dying for;
- I’m pretty fond of “The Greatest Good for the Greatest Number of People” but have not looked into the source of that and studied it carefully but I think that is a great foundational principle for almost everything;
- Service to others may be the meaning of life (the Enterprise crew was in Starfleet, the space service and I spent 19 years in Boy Scouts after being discharged from the US Army);
- Science and the Scientific are the foundation of increasing human knowledge (thanks, Spock) even though I believe in some things that can not be scientifically proven or defined such as Consciousness and God;
- Intuition being a Command prerogative may be evidence of the Holy Spirit, and my testimony about Christ has been moved to its own page and linked in the main menu.
I expect to update and/or elaborate on this later but this is a good start. I did make an edit today 1.30.19.
